That's a wrap
Day 34: Elizabeth City, NC to Nags Head, NC ( 56 miles, 213 feet of climbing)
We started off our last day with a disappointing breakfast of cereal. The waffle maker was broken unfortunately. When we started riding it was already hot outside. Just walking outside from the hotel room there was condensation on my sunglasses. I rode first today and Mom and Maude planned to meet us at rest stop 25 miles in.
We rode through Elizabeth City and then crossed a bridge and rode through some swamp land. It was nice to get to see the water a little bit. The ride was very flat I think the only “hills” were the two bridges we crossed. Despite the heat 25 miles went by quickly and we even beat Mom to the rest stop. While riding I thought back to before this trip when I first bought a bike and had to pull over on my first ride and youtube really quickly how to work the gear shifters. Now I don’t even have to think about how to shift gears.
It was already 90 degrees when we met Mom and Maude so we only stopped for a bit. They took off and rode 18 miles and met me just before the bridge to get onto the Outer Banks. The riding was easy, but the heat was tough. After a short break and some McDonald’s coke they were back on the road. After they crossed the bridge it was just 10 or so miles down the island to where we are staying. They met me at the hotel to officially end our ride.
I think we’re all happy to not have to wake up and ride again tomorrow. We luckily were able to get another early check in and after taking some pictures we went to the beach to relax. I think we’ll have a big seafood dinner tonight to celebrate. We’ll post another blog tomorrow summarizing our thoughts on our journey.
