Good Day for a Rest
Winchester, KY - Rest Day
Today, was a perfect day to rest. Our legs and bodies were tired and sore, and it rained all day. The forecast for tomorrow is clear and sunny. So far, we have not needed to ride in the rain, although I suspect we will get wet on the bikes before our adventure is over. Speaking of our adventure, so far we have cycled 1,894 miles, climbed 63,030 feet, and visited 8 states. We are entering the home stretch of the ride.
We enjoyed the most diverse breakfast of our travels today. Added to all the usual offerings of eggs, bacon, biscuits, etc, we found 10 different cereals, donuts, ring dings, fresh pineapple, and lots of other foods we have not seen for a while. We ate our fair share with no guilt based on the number of calories we have burned on the bikes.
We did the normal chores of washing the clothes and the bikes and generally sorting out all the bags. Somehow, Robin’s front tire was flat, so she showed Shannon how to change a flat. We also mapped out the rest of the riding, which will take us to the Outer Banks in NC. It should take 10 riding days plus one more rest day, and we will finish on August 14th.
Robin and I visited main street while Shannon stayed in the hotel with Maude. Most of the shops were closed, but we did find a brewery where we enjoyed some beer, Jenga, Connect Four, and pinball. It was a perfect way to relax while continuing to explore. We are now headed for a pasta dinner fully refreshed and ready to take on tomorrow’s ride.
